For several years, I watched as my Mum’s health deteriorated under the weight of Alzheimer’s disease. It wasn’t just her memory that suffered; her ability to care for herself also began to decline. Preparing meals, managing her medication, looking after her property and attending to personal care had all become overwhelming for her, and my brother and I faced the heart-wrenching decision about Mum’s long-term care.
Mum was adamant that she didn’t want to leave the reassuring familiarity of her home. She had built so many memories there, and it was her sanctuary. I knew that forcing her to move would take a huge toll on her mental and emotional well-being, but we couldn’t ignore the fact that she was struggling to look after herself properly.
When we looked for solutions, we encountered many excellent nursing care providers. However, Mum didn’t need nursing care yet—she needed a helping hand with daily living. Someone to assist her with meals, ensure she took her medication, help her with personal care like showering, and offer her meaningful companionship.
Put simply, I wanted to help my Mum remain in her home and live with the dignity she has always carried.
This idea became the foundation of Home Assist Limited.
Soon after, I realised that other families faced similar challenges. People began reaching out to me, asking if I could extend these services to their loved ones. Their encouragement led to the creation of HALo—a vision born from my love for my Mum and a desire to help others in similar circumstances.
